From 24 November to 12 December, Professor Mauro Iacono from the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli (Italy), a partner of Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution within the European University Alliance UNINOVIS, visited the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Technology at Kauno kolegija. The visit not only strengthened international cooperation but also offered students a valuable opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the fields of modern data management and computer systems.

During his stay, Professor Iacono taught the course Data Management Technologies to second-year students from the Cyber Systems and Security, Automation and Robotics, and Multimedia Technology study programmes. His teaching combined solid theoretical foundations with practical applications, introducing students to advanced international practices and contemporary working methods. Students worked with real-world data management scenarios, analysed complex systems and benefited from the insights of a lecturer with extensive academic and international research experience.

Professor Iacono is the author of more than 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications, an active participant in international conferences, and the President of the European Council for Modelling and Simulation (ECMS). His research interests focus on the modelling of complex computer systems, high-performance computing (HPC) architectures, and the development of e-government systems. These areas of expertise were clearly reflected in both the lecture content and discussions surrounding student projects, encouraging learners to view technological systems from a broader, global perspective.

In addition, the visit provided both students and academic staff with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with international academic culture, research standards and working practices, which may differ from those commonly applied at local level. Such experiences foster learning and creative problem-solving, enhance the faculty’s international profile and open up further opportunities for collaboration with foreign universities.

Overall, Professor Iacono’s visit was more than an academic exchange; it offered the Kauno kolegija community new ideas, inspiration and practical knowledge that can be applied both in studies and in future professional careers. His expertise and experience contributed significantly to strengthening the faculty’s international visibility and demonstrated how global trends can be successfully integrated into everyday teaching and learning.
